Value Restrictions Note: This field can (optionally) be used in conjunction with the Are Values Limited field. The Value Restrictions field (Figure 477) allows you to create a list of acceptable entries for a field. This is helpful when you want to make sure data entry is completed without errors. Specifically, when an entry is being made in a Keyword List, Keyword Checklist, or Single Keyword field, the options entered in the Value Restrictions field will be displayed for selection. You can add Value Restrictions to other Property Types, but they will not be displayed for selection. Value Restrictions may contain one "pipe" character |. If present, the pipe indicates that there is a User display value for the property, distinct from the value stored in the metadata. For example: With the Value Restriction entries of: “Rhode Island|RI New York|NY Go” there are 3 possible values that will be stored in the metadata: RI, NY and Go. But, the value “RI” will be displayed to Users and Administrators as “Rhode Island” and the value “NY” will display to Users and Administrators as “New York.” Note: The values that display to Users and Administrators are used on controls to manage the contents of the field -- they are not stored in the database or search indexes, and can be changed, added or removed at any time without republication of any content.
