IAIABC is the go-to source for information on workers’ compensation. Association members depend on them for guidance, clarity, and best practices for navigating the murky waters of regulations and requirements. Often, legal decisions are at stake. It’s critical to IAIABC’s mission to provide reliable resources with just a click or two, but that wasn’t happening. In fact, it was frustratingly difficult for members to find the information they relied on. IAIABC was creating important content — getting access to it was the problem. IAIABC was using an association management software (AMS) system to manage their members, events, and online resources, but it lacked the functionality they needed. The resource manager within the AMS was very basic, and members began having problems with it almost from Day One. “We reached the ceiling of capabilities almost immediately,” IAIABC Communications and Engagement Director Heather Lore said. “I realized it was an issue at Year 1 of our AMS, but at that point we had invested a lot of money and time.” IAIABC’s resource hub was essentially a webpage with a list of hyperlinks. To see more results, visitors would have to go to the next page, and the next page, and so on. The hyperlinks would take members to another page where they could download a PDF. That was essentially the extent of its functionality. They couldn’t even include an abstract or description on the resource landing page. What’s worse, only members who were logged in could access the resource area. Other visitors had no visibility of any kind into the wealth of resources hiding behind that wall. For an association that’s built on providing indispensable resources, it was a crippling barrier. How do you sell memberships if no one can see what you offer? But the challenges extended to logged-in members, as well. Accessing documents was famously frustrating, and IAIABC received complaints from users on a regular basis. The search was barely functional and often wouldn’t return correct results. Resources were getting buried and they were inaccessible, and IAIABC wasn’t seeing the numbers of downloads that they expected to see. It was not at all user-friendly and members were having difficulty getting to the information they were paying for. After several years of struggle and frustration, it was time to find a new AMS and a new solution for their resources. The Challenge ABOUT IAIABC The International Association of Industrial Accident Boards and Commissions (IAIABC) was founded in 1914, shortly after the first workers’ compensation laws started to pop up in the United States and Canada. IAIABC provides information and education on workers’ compensation policy, regulation, and administration. The organization works to improve and clarify laws, identify best practices, develop and implement standards, and provide education and information sharing. IAIABC gathers the best resources available to solve the practical administrative and regulatory challenges of its members. “ A year ago, there was a lot of great content, but I never felt excited about it,” says Heather. “Now, I go on there and it looks dynamic…It’s not even like comparing apples and oranges. We’re in a completely different food group now!” THE SOLUTION
