Step 1 : Set Goals

You probably have a good sense of your organizationโ€™s goals, but itโ€™s good practice to review them with stakeholders so everyone agrees on objectives before you begin developing a framework for your content.

You can align user needs with organizational goals by developing a series of experiences that build user confidence and move them toward a goal. This series of experiences is called a โ€œuser journey.โ€ In the sample journey below the user acquires the knowledge they need to be successful and the organization achieves a recruitment goal... everyone wins.

When stakeholders agree on goals it's easier to connect your content with your organizational objectives.

What are your organization's goals?

  • Advancing a cause
  • Engagement
  • Improving the user experience
  • Making information easier to find
  • Recruitment
  • Revenue
  • Security

Sample goals:

Create a better user experience from start to finish. โ€” American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT)

Improve member recruitment and retention by creating an online destination that showcases and facilitates discovery of its content. โ€” International Association of Diecutting and Diemaking (IADD)
